Carmen C.L. Alfiler, 68, of Ahualoa died Nov. 23 at home. Born in Haina, she was a retired Honokaa Elementary School teacher and member of Honokaa United Methodist Church. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 2) at Honokaa United Methodist Church. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by husband, Harold Alfiler of Ahualoa; daughters, Alison (Brandon) Robles of Honokaa and Ahulani (Roy Mattos Jr.) Alfiler of Ahualoa; brother, Ralph (Linda) Cordoban of Oahu; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Toshio Honma, 93, of Hilo died Oct. 31 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Opihikao, he was a retired construction superintendent for Yamada &Sons. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sons, Wallace (Ritsue) Honma of Honolulu and David (Victoria) Honma of Hilo; daughter, Linda (Vance) Lacaran of Mililani, Oahu; sisters, Myra (Larry) Kadooka of Hilo and April (James) Apana Jr. of Kahului, Maui; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty Claire Friend, 92, of Hilo died Nov. 8 in Hilo. Born in Ohio, she was a dancer, musician and member of VFW Post 3830. Celebration of life at a later date. Ralph Davis Moncrief, 71, of Nanawale Estates, Pahoa, died Nov. 20 at home. Born in Detroit, he was a natural foods store owner, merchandiser, smoothie maker and U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran.
